There are so many superfruits being advertised and promoted, but is all the hype about the Goji true?
The Goji Berry comes from the Himalayas and it’s been claimed that it is fountain of youth, adds 20 years to our lives, fights cancer cells & heart disease, improves your love life, and supercharges your immune system ~ but are all those claims true?
Sadly many overzealous marketers have inflated the benefits of the Goji and in doing so have also inflated the high prices of anything made with Goji! Beware especially of multilevel marketing schemes that overstate the health claims or list invalid benefits of the Goji in an effort to sell and gain sales reps. Do inflated claims mean this berry isn’t good for you?
Not at all, in fact the Goji Berry is very good for us. It IS rich in Antioxidants and Micronutrients!! Goji berries are often mixed with other superfruit juices like pomegranate, acai, or blueberry creating a beverage that is very high in antioxidants. Antioxidants protect the cells in our body from free radical damage -free radicals accelerate cancer and heart disease.
Dried Goji berries are a good source of potassium, calcium, iron, zinc, selenium, and vitamin C. They are a rich source of carotenoid zeaxanthin which helps protect against macular degeneration of the eyes. The berries also keep the immune system functioning properly because carotenoids are present. Will this help your love life, not directly, but if you feel better, that certainly won’t hurt it!
Is Goji juice good for everyone? NO, in fact, if you are taking drugs for diabetes, blood pressure, or the blood thinner drug Warfarin, it is advised that you not drink Goji as it may interact with your medications (I’m NOT fond of prescription drugs, but that argument is for another time). Other than that, the refreshing healthy beverages containing Goji are safe to drink and I encourage them! It’s definitely a deposit into your “health bank!!”

- The berries come from an evergreen shrub which produces the Goji berry.
- The berries have been eaten for generations in Asia in the hopes of promoting longevity.
- Chinese Medical Practitioners use the berries to treat common health problems like high blood pressure, inflammation, fever, and poor vision.
